The Berhampur University came into existence on 2nd January 1967 and was inaugurated by the then Governor of Orissa, Dr. A.N. Khosla who also became the first Chancellor of the University.

The University offers courses in various subjects and disciplines such as Arts, Science, Commerce, Law, Education, Medicine, Engineering, Pharmacology, Homeopathy, Ayurveda, Nursing, Military Science, Library Science, and Fine Arts.

There are twenty post-graduate departments in the University offering specialized subjects and M. Phil programs. Some of the faculties like Mass Communication, Tourism and Indian Monuments, Electronic Science, Computer Science, and Marine Science make the University stand apart from some other Universities of the country.

Berhampur University is a permanent member of the Inter University Board of India and Sri Lanka as well as that of the Association of Common Wealth University of London.

The University’s Distance Education centre provides courses under distance education mode which are beneficial for the candidates who are unable to attend the conventional system of classroom education.

The Harihara Mardaraj Distance Education Center (HMDEC) works with a motto of providing education at the door step of the students. The distance education center offers number of under graduate, post graduate, and professional courses.

• Three Year Degree Course in Arts ( Gen./ Hon’s )

Eligibility Criteria: +2 or equivalent
Duration: 3 years

• Three Year Degree Course in Commerce ( Gen./Hon’s )

Eligibility Criteria: +2 or equivalent
Duration: 3 years

• Bachelor of Library and Information Science

Eligibility Criteria: B.A /B.Sc./B.Com.
Duration: 1 year

• Master of Arts (M.A.) in English, Oriya, History, Political Science, Economics, Mathematics

Eligibility Criteria: A Graduate having studied at Least 200 marks in the
Concerned subject as Gen./Hons/ Major Elective at Degree level.
Duration: 2 years

• Master of Arts (M.A.) in Education

Eligibility Criteria: B.Ed / Graduate having studied Education as Pass/Hons. /
Elective at Degree level.
Duration: 2 years

• Master of Arts (M.A.) in Public Administration

Eligibility Criteria: Graduate degree in any discipline
Duration: 2 years

• Master of Commerce (M.Com)

Eligibility Criteria: Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com)
Duration: 2 years

• Master of Science (M.Sc) in following disciplines: Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology

Eligibility Criteria: Any Science Graduate having Studied the concerned subject
As General / Hons./ at the Degree level.
Duration: 2 years

• M.Sc. in Marine Sciences (Oceanography)

Eligibility Criteria: Any Science Graduate with Math./Phy./Chem./Zool./Env.Sc./water Management.
Duration: 2 Years

• M.Sc in Marine Science (Marine Biology)

Eligibility Criteria: Any Science Graduate with Chem./Bot./ Zool./Biological Techniques / Specimen Preservation
Duration: 2 years

• Master of Business Administration (MBA)

Seats: 150
Eligibility: Any Graduate degree
Duration: 2 years
Admission: On the basis of Entrance Exam

• Master of Computer Application (MCA)

Seats: 30
Eligibility: Any Graduate degree with Mathematics or Statistics as a subject at 10 + 2 level
Duration: 3 years

• Master of Laws (LLM)

Seats: 32
Eligibility Criteria: LL.B/B.L./ Except practicing Advocate / Judicial Officers
Duration: 2 years

• P.G.Diploma in Computer Application

Eligibility Criteria: B.A/B.Sc.B.Com./ BE/ B.Tech with  45% of marks in aggregate with Mathematics / Statistics as a Subject as +2 level.
Duration: 1 year

• P.G.Diploma in Marketing Management

Eligibility Criteria: Any Graduate with 40 % marks in aggregate.
