There will be three questions as indicated in the question paper which must be answered in Sanskrit. The remaining questions must be answered either in Sanskrit or in the medium of examination opted by the candidate.

Section A
  1. Significant features of the grammar, with particular stress on the following subjects : (to be answered in Sanskrit)
    1. Samjna – It, Savarna, Ti, Upadha, Samhita, Vrddhi, Guna, Pratipadika, Sarvanama,
    2. Sandhi - Ac, Hal, Visarga,
    3. Karaka,
    4. Samasa,
    5. Vacyas – Kartari, Karmani and Bhave (voice usages)


  2. Origin and development of Sanskrit language
    1. Classification of Indo-European languages
    2. Main characteristics of Vedic Sanskrit language.
    3. Prominent features of Classical Sanskrit language.
    4. Contribution of Sanskrit to linguistic studies.


  3. General Knowledge of Literary History of Sanskrit and Principal trends of literary criticism.
    1. History of Vedic Literature (Samhita, Brahmana, Aranyaka and Upanisads)
    2. Ramayana, Mahabharata
    3. The origin and development of literary genres of :
      • Mahakavya - Asvaghosa, Kalidasa, Bharavi, Magha, Sriharsa, Bhatti,
      • Rupaka (drama ) – Bhasa, Kalidasa, Bhavabhuti, Harsa, Visakhadatta, Sudraka, Bhattanarayana, Murari,
      • Katha – Dandin, Subandhu, Bana,
      • Akhyayika – Bana,

  3. Sundarakandam of Valmiki’s Ramayana, Canto 15, Verses 15 to 30 (Geeta Press Edition)
Group 3
  1. Buddhacaritam – Canto-III (1 to 10 verses)
  2. Meghadutam-Purvamegha -verses 1 to 10
  3. Nitisatakam-Verses 1 to 10 (Edited by D.D. Kosambi (Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan Publication)
  4. Kadambari-Sukanasopadesa (only)
Group 4
  1. Svapnavasavadattam Act VI
  2. Abhijnansakuntalam Act IV verses 15 to 30 (M.R. Kale Edition)
  3. Uttararamacaritam Act 1 verses 31 to 47(M.R. Kale Edition)
Group 5
  1. Samkhyakarika – Pancavimsatih tattvani,
  2. Tarkasamgraha – Padarthanirupanam,
  3. Vedantasara – Adhikarinirupanam,
  4. Manusmrti-II – Aryavarta, Brahmavarta, Brahmacaridharmah.

General Note – (for both the papers) At least two questions should be answered in Sanskrit selecting one from each section. Devanagari script should be used foranswering in Sanskrit.
